I agree. The book would need to be 80 pages to justify that price point. Of course, I guess if you charge 8 bucks, you only have to sell 40% of the copies your competitors sell. Smart.

I picked up Barbarella. Always a sucker for the pinup returns.

I had pre-ordered Witchblade, but then I read an interview with the new writer, and in the very first answer she pointed out that she's using the opportunity to introduce a modern feminist as the wielder of the witchblade. I immediately lost all interest and canceled the order.

I'm still buying Red Sonja. It's a fun romp that includes time travel, sorcery, and boobs. It's pretty silly, but that's part of the fun.

and the last book for me this week is issue #2 of Gravediggers Union. Synopsis for the first and second issue below.

>The supernatural world has gone crazy! The apocalypse is coming, and only the Gravediggers Union can stop it! How? Well, first their leader Cole has to find his estranged daughter. But is she the one behind the apocalypse? Wild comedic horror with steroid zombies, monster gods, swamp vampires, ghost storms, and space monkeys!

>Cole and the boys have to go ask the witch Morphea to help them find the mysterious cult behind the coming apocalypse. One problem: witches and gravediggers do NOT get along. And we're introduced to Morgan: prophet of the apocalyptic Black Temple cult, and Cole's estranged daughter!

NEW COMIC BOOKS THIS WEEK. CHECK THEM OUT AT HTTP://COMICLIST.COM

I picked up a few books this week. 2 from Image and 1 from Valiant.

Glitterbomb #2 continues analyzing the monster that drives some people to fame.
>Kaydon's tragedy-touched fame is a vortex pulling her ever deeper, and something else lurks there with her in the darkness…

Hack/Slash Ressurection brings back Tim Seely! Hopefully that means it will be a good series. Hack/Slash suffers from either being really good, or complete shit. Rarely is there a middle ground.
>The fan-favorite title returns with hot new writer, TINI HOWARD! Cassie Hack has been living off the grid, but when a new monstrous threat arises to torment promiscuous teens, it's time for Cassie to pick up the baseball bat once again! Gory, sexy, twisted, and funny…HACK IS BACK!

Image Plus #3 is a magazine that offers interviews with creators, sneak peeks at upcoming comic books, and occasionally takes a look at the comic book industry. So far every issue in Volume 2 has had a preview for the next arc in the Wytches series.

Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

I'm not good at comic book reviews, but I just finished reading Redneck (It's only 6 issues) and I can't recommend it enough. The story takes place in modern times, and revolves around a family of vampires that are raising cattle in Texas. They've learned to keep their desires in check, and live side-by-side with humans. Well, most humans. There is the Landry family with whom they have been warring for a century or more.

It's not only about the hate bad blood between families can cause though, it's also a mystery book, with the murder of a family member causing even more turmoil, as well as the fears of dealing with family members that are all powerful. There is self discovery, traditional versus current values, back stabbing, drunkeness, street brawls, and eating row cows.

Redneck is written by Donny Cates, who has gotten a lot of praise for his books God Country and Baby Teeth. Redneck can be had in a collected edition for $9.99

Has /co/ read anything lately that blew their socks off?

 No.1006[Reply]

I sat down with a stack of comics to ease myself into Sunday evening, and do some relaxing before sleeping the night away and waking to the stress of Monday.

The first issue I read is Stained #5. It's the last issue of Stained, unless it gets continued for another arc. This book wraps up the initial storyline, and in a manner that makes it feel like a Michael Bay movie.

The first 4 pages are amazing, they have a great buildup to the final battle by showing a flashback to how the antagonist got to be the way he is. There is a scene where a girl is chained up to a wall, and his father is pushing him to break the girl so taht she is like his dog, loyal and obedient.

The problem is, immediately after this it turns into an action flick that is so unbelievable that it breaks the engagement built up from the last 4 issues. The protagonist, a female that has a mechanical arm, proceeds to beat up 14 full grown men in just a couple of panels, then uses one of them to block bullets that no one ever fired. Afterwards she gets into a fight with a trained assassin, and it is setup like there is going to be an epic fight. THe female assassin is fast, strong, and exchanging blows really well. She surprises our hero and gets two knives buried into the heroes back.

The knives are then ripped out, upward, and leave huge holes. Then the protagonist punches the assassin and the fight is over. What the fuck? Talk about a case of blue balls. The villian has made his way to a getaway semi truck, which of course our hero jumps onto the hood of, then gets shot a billion times… well I mean, she would have, but she is so fast she avoids bullets, and has some stupid line as she pulls the driver from the truck.

Bad guy gets killed, somehow she escapes a facility that is crawling with other trained soldiers (we aren't shown how she got away) and makes it home. Cut to a television with the news on it, talking about how these girls are now rescued (apparently she found all the kidnapped girls, this wasn't explained either) and all the bad guys are murdered. Show the hero in her apartment, with one of the girls she rescued. The girl doesn't want to go home, but wants to stay with the hero. Hero is on the phone, and asks her handler what the next job is. The final panel shows the rescued girl laying in bed, with a fucking robotic arm!

It's 2 pages of story, and 30 pages of fight scenes that don't make any sense, and don't exPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

It's Wednesday, Do you know where your comic books are?

Short list for me this week. Kid Lobotomy #1 is the first release from IDW's Black Crown line, which is being headed by one of the fantastic editors that made Vertigo awesome.

Don't know a lot of details about the synopsis, buying it mostly because of the editors history.

Wild Storm #8 also releases this week. This first (only?) arc is being written by Warren Ellis, and is a completely different take on the character's from the '90s. He's actually making them interesting.

Kid Lobotomy
>Kafka meets King Lear by way of Young Frankenstein in KID LOBOTOMY, a dark, demented, monthly satire that follows a dysfunctional family of hoteliers. Will sibling rivalry, seduction, and shapeshifting eventually lead to sanity or salvation? Big Daddy is a rich hotelier who, in a cracked echo of King Lear, appoints his youngest descendant to manage The Suites, a peculiar hotel located behind the Black Crown Pub. Affectionately known as Kid, his good looks and swagger can't hide a rough childhood of strange therapies and brain operations that have awakened inner demons and psychodramas. This of course makes him eminently qualified to perform lobotomies. A failed rockstar/successful madman gets one last change to prove his worth-and regain his sanity-by turning the hotel that was once his childhood sanctuary into a lucrative business, despite a host of obstacles-including his own sister-who would love nothing more than to see him fail miserably. Kid Lobotomy is co-created/written by Peter Milligan (Shade, the Changing Man, Brittania, Hellblazer) and illustrated by Tess Fowler (Rat Queens) with 'A' covers by Fowler, a 'B' cover by Rory Phillips, and a retailer incentive cover by comics superstar Frank Quitely (Jupiter's Legacy, We3)

Wild Storm
>Jacob Marlowe told Angie Spica that he isn't from around here. He is, in fact, from a long way away. And the story of how he and his friends got here is probably the oldest secret on Earth. The Wild Storm cosmology begins here. Also, nobody has stopped trying to kill Angie Spica, and I.O. Chief Analyst Jacklyn King just had the worst and most brilliant idea of her life. RATED T+
