Hey /co/

Congratulations, you're a year old.

Remember when you started off as a board that would only be around for a month, so people could read Watchmen? Remember when only two people ever actually read the book?

lol@book clubs.

Seriously though, congratulations.

What are we reading for next months Comic Book Club ?

Amazon has published their yearly listing for Best Comics and Graphic Novels.

The top choice is "Lighter Than My Shadow" by Katie Green, a book and writer I have never heard of.

The full list can be found here - https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=17388344011

So what are some of your favorite stories/arcs for the year? The only rule is that the story arc had to either start, or end in 2017.

Entertainment Weekly has released their list for the best comics of 2017.

If you thought the Amazon one was a bit goofy, wait until you see this one. Seems like the author just read the marketing tag from Previews and ordered them how they felt would work.

Aubrey Sitterson is finally fired from the G.I. Joe book.

Disappointing that it wasn't the fans decrying what G.I. Joe had become, but was instead the book dropping so low in sales.

Sitterson had no qualifications to be writing GI Joe to begin with. Hopefully they bring someone in that understands the military instead of trying to turn the book into a… I don't want to say liberal, because it's actually the far-far-left ideology, but that's the only term I know to try and describe the odd utopian feel of the book.

Why do these writers insist on messing with established characters and canon? Make your own LGBBQT military comic, if it's well done people will read it.

I thought that was a low rent ryan gosling for a sec

Looks like Trevor Lee.

Get a haircut, Aubrey Sitterson!

He looks like a generic wrestler in general. I don't keep up with GI Joe but surprised a dude looking like this is so against patriotism. I can easily see him with a can of Copenhagen and a pick-up truck.

Look at this art. Look at it. What is wrong with The Hulk and Thor? This is a brand new comic launching soon, called avengers: Back to Basics. It's supposed to be an entry point for people to get to know the characters.

Thor's face man. He looks like a Playmobil toy.

I don't read comics much but have started this one, so I thought I would make a thread about it.

Fourth-Wall breaking in comics, yeah or nay?

I like it better when Deadpool does it. It depends on the author to be honest. I don't really dig Gwenpool, but it's a good starting point for comics.

Welcome to the club.

New Jem and the Holograms comic coming out. When did they get fat and ugly? Is this new or has it been that way for a while?

File: 1512422803739.jpg (87.16 KB, 325x834, Holograms_group_art_01.jpg)

no idea how long they looked like that, but this is how I remember them. Even trying to match them up with the new look is hard.

This is truly outrageous

lol. 3 of the characters look identical with different shading. Fan art has gone too far.

But who was bass
But who was drum

I agree. The book would need to be 80 pages to justify that price point. Of course, I guess if you charge 8 bucks, you only have to sell 40% of the copies your competitors sell. Smart.

I picked up Barbarella. Always a sucker for the pinup returns.

I had pre-ordered Witchblade, but then I read an interview with the new writer, and in the very first answer she pointed out that she's using the opportunity to introduce a modern feminist as the wielder of the witchblade. I immediately lost all interest and canceled the order.

I'm still buying Red Sonja. It's a fun romp that includes time travel, sorcery, and boobs. It's pretty silly, but that's part of the fun.

and the last book for me this week is issue #2 of Gravediggers Union. Synopsis for the first and second issue below.

>The supernatural world has gone crazy! The apocalypse is coming, and only the Gravediggers Union can stop it! How? Well, first their leader Cole has to find his estranged daughter. But is she the one behind the apocalypse? Wild comedic horror with steroid zombies, monster gods, swamp vampires, ghost storms, and space monkeys!

>Cole and the boys have to go ask the witch Morphea to help them find the mysterious cult behind the coming apocalypse. One problem: witches and gravediggers do NOT get along. And we're introduced to Morgan: prophet of the apocalyptic Black Temple cult, and Cole's estranged daughter!

Pull list for February. Subject to change once I get a chance to dig through the Previews catalog.

Let me know if you have recommendations I may have missed, or if I'm getting something you think is shit.
