If you have a pull-list or pre-order your comics, January is when you order your comics for March.

Alterna Comics is trying to change their operation by offering $1.50 issues printed on newsprint. It's an interesting move in 2017, when comics are being printed on higher quality materials than previously, but the price has gotten out of hand for most people.

Alterna has two new series starting in March, so check out their solicitation and see if you want to support this indie.

Hey /co/

Congratulations, you're a year old.

Remember when you started off as a board that would only be around for a month, so people could read Watchmen? Remember when only two people ever actually read the book?

Amazon has published their yearly listing for Best Comics and Graphic Novels.

The top choice is "Lighter Than My Shadow" by Katie Green, a book and writer I have never heard of.

The full list can be found here - https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=17388344011

So what are some of your favorite stories/arcs for the year? The only rule is that the story arc had to either start, or end in 2017.

Aubrey Sitterson is finally fired from the G.I. Joe book.

Disappointing that it wasn't the fans decrying what G.I. Joe had become, but was instead the book dropping so low in sales.

Sitterson had no qualifications to be writing GI Joe to begin with. Hopefully they bring someone in that understands the military instead of trying to turn the book into a… I don't want to say liberal, because it's actually the far-far-left ideology, but that's the only term I know to try and describe the odd utopian feel of the book.

Look at this art. Look at it. What is wrong with The Hulk and Thor? This is a brand new comic launching soon, called avengers: Back to Basics. It's supposed to be an entry point for people to get to know the characters.

I'm not good at comic book reviews, but I just finished reading Redneck (It's only 6 issues) and I can't recommend it enough. The story takes place in modern times, and revolves around a family of vampires that are raising cattle in Texas. They've learned to keep their desires in check, and live side-by-side with humans. Well, most humans. There is the Landry family with whom they have been warring for a century or more.

It's not only about the hate bad blood between families can cause though, it's also a mystery book, with the murder of a family member causing even more turmoil, as well as the fears of dealing with family members that are all powerful. There is self discovery, traditional versus current values, back stabbing, drunkeness, street brawls, and eating row cows.

Redneck is written by Donny Cates, who has gotten a lot of praise for his books God Country and Baby Teeth. Redneck can be had in a collected edition for $9.99

I sat down with a stack of comics to ease myself into Sunday evening, and do some relaxing before sleeping the night away and waking to the stress of Monday.

The first issue I read is Stained #5. It's the last issue of Stained, unless it gets continued for another arc. This book wraps up the initial storyline, and in a manner that makes it feel like a Michael Bay movie.

The first 4 pages are amazing, they have a great buildup to the final battle by showing a flashback to how the antagonist got to be the way he is. There is a scene where a girl is chained up to a wall, and his father is pushing him to break the girl so taht she is like his dog, loyal and obedient.

The problem is, immediately after this it turns into an action flick that is so unbelievable that it breaks the engagement built up from the last 4 issues. The protagonist, a female that has a mechanical arm, proceeds to beat up 14 full grown men in just a couple of panels, then uses one of them to block bullets that no one ever fired. Afterwards she gets into a fight with a trained assassin, and it is setup like there is going to be an epic fight. THe female assassin is fast, strong, and exchanging blows really well. She surprises our hero and gets two knives buried into the heroes back.

The knives are then ripped out, upward, and leave huge holes. Then the protagonist punches the assassin and the fight is over. What the fuck? Talk about a case of blue balls. The villian has made his way to a getaway semi truck, which of course our hero jumps onto the hood of, then gets shot a billion times… well I mean, she would have, but she is so fast she avoids bullets, and has some stupid line as she pulls the driver from the truck.

Bad guy gets killed, somehow she escapes a facility that is crawling with other trained soldiers (we aren't shown how she got away) and makes it home. Cut to a television with the news on it, talking about how these girls are now rescued (apparently she found all the kidnapped girls, this wasn't explained either) and all the bad guys are murdered. Show the hero in her apartment, with one of the girls she rescued. The girl doesn't want to go home, but wants to stay with the hero. Hero is on the phone, and asks her handler what the next job is. The final panel shows the rescued girl laying in bed, with a fucking robotic arm!

It's 2 pages of story, and 30 pages of fight scenes that don't make any sense, and don't explain anything about the world, the characters, or the actions of the hero and how she prevails.

So now I'm upset because this book is complete shite, and I don't want to read anything else tonight. I look up the publisher, 451Entertainment, and it's FUCKING OWNED BY MICHAEL BAY.

Lads, skip this trade if you see it. It's a trick. The first few issues are super interesting, but it falls apart at the end. It completely jumps off the rails, and falls apart so badly.

Marvel… oh Marvel… you are a dirty bitch.

So this Marvel Legacy line that they have been hyping for the last few months, promising fans that they are going to give us what we want, isn't what anyone wanted.

52 new books, 48 of them will be continuations of the current characters. Yes, you read that right, Amadeus Cho is no longer the Super Amazing Hulk, but will become The Incredible Hulk. The same goes for all the other characters fans were hoping would be replaced with the originals. Riri Williams is still the star of Invincible Iron Man, etc.

Apparently all that art they've been showing with the classic characters is just cover art.

RIP all hopes and dreams.

It's the time of month where we go back in time and look at the sales for last month.

Marvel brought in the most dollars. Even though it seems like nearly everyone hated The Secret Empire, the first book still sold more than anything else. Will be interesting to see if it goes down in the following months.

Looking at the charts, Marvel's strategy of releasing a bunch of books with #1 on the cover is working. Marvel had 6 books in the top 10, DC had 3, and Image had 1. To battle the barrage of first issues from Marvel, DC was able to stay in the Top Ten with their Batman/Flash crossover event "The Button". The power of Watchmen is strong in 2017. Images only book in the top ten was The Walking Dead, coming in at #10.

The other publishers don't even show up until IDW lands a spot at 95 with Neil Gaiman's American Gods issue 3.

Check out the data attached. It's got some interesting, exciting, and disappointing information.

Have any of you seen this yet? I saw that it's getting good reviews, but how good could it POSSIBLY be? I know for sure it's not better than the 2009 one, and it's a wonder woman movie set in WW1.

Marvel Comics typically cancel books if they don't sell over 20k a month. Below is a list of books from Marvel that aren't hitting that goal and have the potential to be ended, or have already been canceled (denoted with an *).

There are a lot of books that are in trouble. When you hear people talk about Marvel being in a sales slump, this is what they mean. Source is Cosmic Book News. There's also a recurring theme with many of these stories.

Witchblade Show for NBC

Looks like Sony finally found someone to pick up this show. Going to be interesting to see how Witchblade fairs on a network that typically pushes values that are in conflict with the series.

>With “The Vampire Diaries” ending this season, Dries will write the script while also executive producing the series with Brian Young. *Marc Silvestri* and Matt Hawkins (writer of comics including “Think Tank” and the President and COO for Top Cow) will also be along to executive produce with Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz.

With Michael Turner being deceased, I wonder if his family had to sign off on the show, or if Silvestri was able to do the deal on his own. Turner's comic Fathom recently got a relaunch, so maybe Witchblade will soon do the same?

March Comic Book Sales

More information at http://www.cosmicbooknews.com/top-10-comic-books-march-2016

I always find these lists to be interesting.

Marvel was the top earner by dollars, while DC was the top publisher. This makes sense considering the top book was the $10 issue of Spider-Man (which is really expensive). Honestly, I'm surprised it sold so well with that price tag. The issue was about twice the size of a typical comic, so the value is justified.

The top 10 comics list was dominated by DC, who secured 5 of the slots, Marvel getting 4 of them, and The Walking Dead by Image Comics being the sole contender not by the big two.

Interestingly, Image has the top two best selling graphic novels, Saga Volume 7 and The Walking Dead Vol 23.

Check out the link for more tidbits from March sales.

Doom Patrol On Indefinite Hiatus After #6

Apparently Gerard Way can't get his shit together. What a surprise, an emo song writer has problems with deadlines.

Honestly though, the Young Animal line from DC seems to be struggling as a whole. I was reading Mother Panic and it's not particularly good.

With it, he returned to Earth…only to find himself stranded in the modern day. But that was a lifetime ago. Now, far from home on a strange and primitive new world, Aric has begun a new life. Liberated from his past, he tends to his crops. Free from war. Free from violence. Free from the armor. But the machinery of death marches his way once again. With it, he will decimate armies, topple empires and incite interplanetary warfare as he rises from SOLDIER to GENERAL to EMPEROR to VISIGOTH. They wanted a weapon. He will give them war!

Have any of you heard of 'CW Seed'?

I was looking to see when arrow is on (since I don't plan on checking extratorrent every 10 minutes) and apparently they have a streaming service with some of the DC animated movies, for free? I mean, there are commercials still, but you don't have to pay.

It's bizarre. They have Crisis on Two Earths and Doom, JL: War and Flashpoint Paradox (but no throne of atlantis as far as I can tell).

But what's really weird is that they have The New Frontier. It just kind of amazes me that Warner would hand them over like that considering they only keep them on Netflix for like 18 months.
