Agriculture takes a great many resources to be viable as well, and costs more to eat vegan than not.
I greatly dislike most modern animal farming techniques, but growing more plants is not going to change peoples diets or appetites, but lowering the prices on vegan meals might.
In the US farmers are paid to Not grow crops in order to drive up prices and keep the economy at artificial levels, and more importantly to keep it stable. Could you imagine if food prices were at 1/4 or less of the current market value?
I would say we need to fix the way we perceive "wealth" and redirect our goals towards the common good of our society, and no, I am not talking about communism/socialism. I am referring to a mere change in perspective goals as a capitalist nation.
We have the choice to fund our common good under capitalism just as much as we can chose to fund corporate wealth.
The choice is ours, and the future is not yet determined.
I am not vegan by the way.
