Three FPS giants of the 90s.

You need to decide this once and for all: Which one is best

File: 1451794216286.png (133.2 KB, 800x1443, 800px-Quake_-_family_tree.png)

Quake, for no other reason than the engine and all the games that were spawned from it's being released under the GPL. It was a game changer, and we still feel it's affect to this day.

Objective list
>Doom best single player
>Quake best multi
Sorry UT

If I could only play one it would be Doom

I don't know much about the history of fps, but I was gonna say quake for the same reason.
That graphic is cool as shit

For me, quake, no question. Quake changed everything about my gaming habits. Team Fortress in it's heydey was my favourite game ever made.

Before quake, I'd play on the pc for adventure or sim games, the occasional crpg and MUD, but when quake came out, I stopped playing anything else for years.

I still can't stop trying to bunnyhop in every first person game I play. It's part of how I aim, it's just so ingrained in me, I am constantly making trimp motions with my mouse.

It was the multiplayer mods for quake that really captured my interest. I had played some multiplayer before then, but nothing like quake's explosion of player-made content.

Plus there was not much else to compare it to, so all the talent was focused on modding for one of a few games.

It was the golden age of multiplayer video games for me.

Back when you could stomp somebody and instead of them freaking out at you or quitting or joining your team, they'd respawn and try again. And eventually, they'd become dangerous as fuck.

Fuck you for copying my thread OP

you're welcome dude. feel free to stay or leave depending on the circumstances.

Are you implying OP is a…fag?

Quake. Easy. I remember the first time I saw GLQuake running on a Voodoo1 in 1995. Changed my life.

None. Descent all the way. Exploration, different environments, and controlling a fucking spacecraft!

>gothic scifi lovecraft theme
>engine and maps respect muh freedoms
No doubt about it

UT99 - some of the best memories I have

DOOM - good for single player

oman oman oman.

Does this mean you will jump into the finalchan Xonotic server? It's pretty hard to get a group of people together at one time.

On their own, Unreal Tournament clearly wins for me, but even looking through the 90's fan wads like Hell Revealed gives Doom the edge in terms of gameplay and content. Quake's undeniably well made, but never really resonated with me.

Yeah, you can't beat Doom as far as content goes. Hell, even John Romero has been releasing maps for it the last couple of months. The controls are simple, but the game is still engaging.

Weird that I still enjoy running around in Doom, but have no interest in the last 4 CoD games.

For the singleplayer I prefer Doom,
For multiplayer I prefer UT but Quake has overall faster movement.

Hell yeah I will. I havent played Xonotic, but I will give it a try. How do I find it?

It's at www.xonotic.org. It's free and a lot of fun.

Can confirm, the fast of Quake with interesting weapons like UT
Hagar best gun

The intro music will make you cum.

Will try this out later. Hopefully my toaster laptop is good enough to run it!!!

Quake is the best. It has actual 3D and great multiplayer. Never heard of UT.

I had UT GOTYE when I was younger, waay back.
I played the fuck out of that game.

UT all the way.

Wtf you haven't heard of Unreal Tournament? How about the Unreal Engine.

Jesus fuck how old are you to not have played Unreal Tournament. A new one just came out.

I'm going to have to go with Doom, I got to experience it online in the 90s so just for the sheer nostalgia factor alone plus I still go back and play it once and a while when I feel like it.

DooM cuz this game will keep played forever. others may not.

only DOOM survived into the current decade, and still thrived even with modern changes, so I'd say it's the most successful.

Most fun though? Quake tbh.
