Three FPS giants of the 90s.

You need to decide this once and for all: Which one is best

Quake, for no other reason than the engine and all the games that were spawned from it's being released under the GPL. It was a game changer, and we still feel it's affect to this day.

Objective list

Sorry UT

If I could only play one it would be Doom

I don't know much about the history of fps, but I was gonna say quake for the same reason.
That graphic is cool as shit

 No.654

For me, quake, no question. Quake changed everything about my gaming habits. Team Fortress in it's heydey was my favourite game ever made.

Before quake, I'd play on the pc for adventure or sim games, the occasional crpg and MUD, but when quake came out, I stopped playing anything else for years.

I still can't stop trying to bunnyhop in every first person game I play. It's part of how I aim, it's just so ingrained in me, I am constantly making trimp motions with my mouse.

It was the multiplayer mods for quake that really captured my interest. I had played some multiplayer before then, but nothing like quake's explosion of player-made content.

Plus there was not much else to compare it to, so all the talent was focused on modding for one of a few games.

It was the golden age of multiplayer video games for me.

Back when you could stomp somebody and instead of them freaking out at you or quitting or joining your team, they'd respawn and try again. And eventually, they'd become dangerous as fuck.

Quake. Easy. I remember the first time I saw GLQuake running on a Voodoo1 in 1995. Changed my life.

DOOM - good for single player

Does this mean you will jump into the finalchan Xonotic server? It's pretty hard to get a group of people together at one time.

 No.1129

On their own, Unreal Tournament clearly wins for me, but even looking through the 90's fan wads like Hell Revealed gives Doom the edge in terms of gameplay and content. Quake's undeniably well made, but never really resonated with me.

 No.1131

>>1129
Yeah, you can't beat Doom as far as content goes. Hell, even John Romero has been releasing maps for it the last couple of months. The controls are simple, but the game is still engaging.

Weird that I still enjoy running around in Doom, but have no interest in the last 4 CoD games.

For the singleplayer I prefer Doom,
For multiplayer I prefer UT but Quake has overall faster movement.

I'm going to have to go with Doom, I got to experience it online in the 90s so just for the sheer nostalgia factor alone plus I still go back and play it once and a while when I feel like it.
