The situation with /pol/ is a bit complicated. It's really not a clear cut reason of why we say "no" to the idea.
1. Shitposting. Finalchan isn't really about that, it's a discussion-oriented imageboard, not shitpost-oriented. Most /pol/ boards tend to get flooded with shitposts. To which you might ask, why don't you delete the shitposts? That brings me to my next point.
2. Opinions. Everyone's got them. If we delete something that we constitute as a "shitpost" — even if it is or isn't — it might influence backlash. Since the nature of the board is all about opinions, deleting a shitpost might still very well be someone else's legitimate opinion. Deleting someone's opinion is (usually) very poorly recieved and will be considered censorship. Now, we can say that we've not ever considered ourselves a "bastion of free-speech" like 8chan or Masterchan have, but that doesn't magically stop people from being angry. Even though we don't go out of our way to censor people's opinions, deleting something that very well can be considered an opinion (as well as a shitpost in our eyes, possibly) will cause backlash.
It sucks, because I'm really not actually opposed to the idea of having a dedicated board to discussing politics, I just hate the way the others are run on other imageboards (8chan, 4chan, most other imageboards). The nature of /pol/ is usually shitposting, and it'd be hard to break that stigma while simultaneously trying to seem like we're not being censoring faggots.
Now, just because we don't want a /pol/, doesn't mean we discourage or condemn political discussion. We love any form of discussion, and discourage censorship. We just don't want to start something that will probably backfire. Any political discussion can probably be taken to >>>/r/
without being deleted, unless it's something super shitposty (which we'd probably just move to >>>/sp/
, not delete).
said, 76chan might be a good fit, as well as endchan if you're looking for more of a drop-in replacement for 8chan.
